2010 Race Comments...
What a great event Cross Timbers is! Teresa and team did a remarkable job preparing and running an outstanding race. I can't thank all of the volunteers enough for being out there all day - you guys are amazing. Drew, Jennifer, Linda and everyone else at the NTTR aid station -- it was so great to run into a stop where you see so many familiar faces and everyone knows your name - man what a boost! On my way back in on the second loop I kept telling myself to just get to the NTTR tent and you'll be okay - kept me going. I have to say that while I was told that this was a tough course, I wasn't prepared for just how tough it is -- I will be back next year for sure! Thank you to everyone for such a fun and challenging day!

Teresa,
In my opinion, you are the best Race Director in Texas!
You always provide a great hospitality for runners for pre and post race dinners and burgers.
You may not know how much runners enjoy these times for socializing each others.
You give out two T shirts and sweat shirts.
Good course marking.
Generous cut off time.
Good volunteers and good snack especially 1/2 marathon turn aid station.
They always provide real good snack every year!
Good tent and furnace for finish line.
You give out a lot for runners.
I guess it is a real Texas style!
I am sure you will attract more national runners.
Northern runners need to know this race
and I think your race could be one of Ultra Cup Race like a Montrail.
Great Job you did every year and Thank you!
Kim
A big Thank You to Teresa and all the GREAT volunteers! It was nice to see you too Linda, I loved the bunny ears! I brought some newbies out and they just loved it out there! They said they will be back next year and so will I!
Have a great day!

Cross Timbers was a blast! It was so nice to seeing so many NTTR folks out there! Felt like home coming into Cedar Bayou aid station. Thanks to all that worked so hard making this event such a huge success. Thank you Teresa and Team!

Cross Timbers- a fantastic success! Thanks to Teresa McCoul and her team: John, Roger and Larry...and thanks to all the volunteers that made this year's Cross Timbers the best yet.
A special note of appreciation to our Cedar Bayou aid station captain: Drew Meyer. Drew was setting up the aid station from very early morning to waiting for the last 50 miler to come through late into the evening. Drew made countless trips for water refills, re-stocking the aid station, transporting dnf runners back to the finish line and trips to get burgers for the volunteers working the aid station. Oh yes, he also spent all day serving food and beverage to the 250+ runners traversing the aid station.
Was great to see the many NTTR faces coming through the aid station...including Jay Norman a previous Cross Timbers race director.
Would love to see race reports from NTTR runners.
Teresa,
You certainly did treat me well and more than exceeded expectations! Thanks so much for your hospitality. You have great volunteers, too.
I don't know about improvements. . . . I could have used a cold dip, massage, and chauffeur after-wards, but I survived OK without.
I would be happy for you to put my report on the CT site. I hope to be someone who can encourage others that they can keep on going, even if it's slow and painful. Not much more than 2 yrs ago, I could hardly run a mile w/out stopping. In April of 2008, I ran my first 10k, and have been building up distance since then. As my bro-in-law said, I may have been last, but I came in ahead of all those who would never attempt it. And as another friend said, quoting some comedian, "Everywhere is within walking distance …….if you got the time."
Thanks!
Paul
Paul, what a great write-up. A sincere congratulations of your finish. Having run hundreds of mile on the Cross Timbers Trail and serving as RD with my wife, Betty, and ultra runner, Jack Johnson, for seven years, I could "see" every place you mentioned and "feel" all of your pain.
This year I only ran the 1/2 Marathon, feeling a little like a wimp, but glad that's all I committed to by the time I finished.
Yes, it was a little muddy, but at least it wasn't raining, the wind blowing 40 mph, the temperature below freezing or even worse the lake level about the trail. I've seen all of these conditions.
Teresa, you did the best job of all the race directors who have ever directed the Cross Timbers race, bar none. I won't attempt to list any of the volunteers because I know I would leave someone out, but they are the ones that make it all happen. There could not be a race without them. Thank all of you.
Cross Timbers has always been my favorite race on my favorite trail. I consider it my "home court".
Good running,
Jay Norman

Teresa,
What a wonderful day and a wonderful race! You did a super job - I liked
the start better - more room to park, it just seemed like a much better
place. The course seemed way harder though! I guess that mud makes all
the difference! Course markings were terrific - I didn't get lost and it
seems like in previous years I always managed at least once to get lost.
Aid stations were great and spaced just right. The aid station at the top
of the hill was the best aid station in the entire world!
Thanks so much Teresa - I know you and the volunteers put so much effort
into the race and it sure did show!

CROSS TIMBERS 2010
Thank you and all of the volunteers for an incredible race.
After the weather we had the week before the race it
was just an amazing job you and your staff did to
prepare the trail, aid stations and finish area.
Can't wait until next year. This is definitely a
must do race each year.
Thanks again,
Jim Hogan
"Hi Teresa! Thanks so much for a great time! My friend and I enjoyed the event so much! We will be back next year!"

There is more of a story than the pics indicate. One of those stories is that after Mike Adams took food for the event on Friday evening, I tagged along and picked up my registration bib and new event T-Shirt. After delivering and driving back to Sherman, I inadvertently left my stuff in his pickup. Later, I just called him and Mike gave me the number on my bib. At 5 am before I left for the race, I took a sheet of paper, folded it in half, and pinned it on my running shirt. Teresa was kind enough to let me wear it in the race. So... just one of the stories I could tell. Just want to say one thing to Teresa, John, Roger, etal... "Just loved the new location at Juniper Point for the races!!!" It's much better than the old location at Cedar Bayou. Also, you guys plus the volunteers did a simply magnificent job of planning, producing, and overseeing the race, food, advertising, etc. You guys are just "the best!" aL
Race volunteering is certainly *not* a thankless job. I was greatly over-appreciated for a simple day of enjoying the race from the sidelines. Big congratulations to Teresa and her crew for turning out another super event up there. Cross timbers is an honest little trail run, maybe not so little anymore, and all who worked with it can be proud to have been associated with it.
Frankly I was inspired and perhaps a little shamed by the heroic multi-day stint of volunteering done by Lynn, the Thompsons, the Billmans, and many others at Rocky. Now there's some people worthy of recognition, as their work started days before and ended days after the event itself. Wow! Compared to their accomplishments, a single day of work is just the short program.

I agree! What a great race on a terrific course! As that last 50 miler coming through late into the night, I was especially humbled and grateful to all the aide station workers who had to wait around on me! Thanks for being there. And then--was it Lori?--at the finish fixed me up with a freshly cooked burger, which tasted especially good after 15 hours on the trail. We knew it was time to go home when the generator ran out of gas and the lights went out. NTTR was well represented all the way around. Great big kudos to the race organizers and all the committed volunteers! Thanks to all!

Teresa, thanks so much for everything!! Your team was simply fantastic!! Zach had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed helping you out!! See ya at the Grasslands!! Peace!"

I think Linda said it very well. Teresa, John, and Roger did an amazing job as race directors. Drew Meyer and Larry Flies, thanks so much for your awesome aid stations. I did the half and your stations were a big help. A lot of hard work was done on the trail to get it ready, and it was in great shape. To all the volunteers, thanks for all your hard work and for making this happen. It was an extremely successful event and a great experience. Thanks!

"Teresa - It was such a good race! I thank both you and John and of course all the great volunteers! I just loved it, but don't remember that marathon out and back section being that brutal! The 'gourmet' aid station was what made it all worthwhile on the way back! It was like a glorious oasis! And I thank you so much for my veggie burger you cooked for me, after such a long day for you!"
